A HEROIC police dog named Diesel was killed in the police terror raid targeting the alleged mastermind behind the Paris terror attacks. The anti-terror Belgian Shepherd dog, aged seven years old, was killed during the operation by terrorists when French special forces raided an apartment building in Saint-Denis early on Wednesday morning. Diesel was blown up by a female suicide bomber during a gunfight with a suspected ISIS aggressive militant behind the Paris bloodshed.

The force said that ‘assault and explosives’ search dogs are crucial to the work of the French anti-terror unit known as RAID. More than 100 police and soldiers were involved in a gunfight with up to six suspected Paris terrorists taking the flat refuge including the mastermind behind the atrocities. The police spokesman said that dogs such as Diesel who are trained to assist in operations where there is a risk of explosives were “indispensable” to the elite unit. Diesel was the first French police dog to be killed in duty. Diesel is to be awarded the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross. Diesel’s death sparked a huge wave of mourning all over the social media using the twitter hashtag #JeSuisChien, which means “I am a dog” in English. With a reference to the whole world’s cry of solidarity and gratitude in the wake of the terror attacks on Charlie Hebdo magazine, last January.

‘The PDSA Dickin Medal recognizes conspicuous devotion to duty in the theater of conflict and Diesel is a truly deserving recipient. His gallant actions helped to protect human life in the face of imminent danger and we are very proud to honor him in this way.’
