This is Harley, A Chihuahua dog from Berthoud, Colorado, who was rescued from a puppy mill called The American Humane Association’s 2015 American Hero Dog. Harley, the poor little Chihuahua who is missing an eye, has deformed legs among other medical issues because of the time spent at the mill. Despite all of his disabilities he challenged every one and himself as well when he managed to have this unbelievable transformation. Harley, now is a “spokes-dog” who stands against and fights all puppy mills.
Harley has spent ten years of his entire life in a small cage in a puppy mill before he was rescued and homed. His way to heal physically and emotionally has inspired a campaign named after him, “Harley to the Rescue” which was made to fund raise, save and provide medical care for more than 500 dogs who were found in puppy mills over the past two years.
As a spokes dog, Harley has inspired and educated thousands of people about the horror of dog breeding industries. Harley, was named the Winner of the Emerging Hero Dogs category. His story is very inspirational because he endured rough and cruel treatments at the time he spent in the puppy mill. He is like a new dog now with a completely new life.
“It was just four years ago that he was pulled from the cage in the puppy mill and left to die,” Harley’s owner, Rudi Taylor, said during the awards show at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles last weekend, according to Today.com. “We never would have ever thought he would live this long and make such a difference for so many puppies.”
